Brodie Castle, Benromach Distillery, Elgin

Take the A96 east towards Aberdeen.

After 5 miles you’ll arrive at Brodie. You may wish to call into Brodie Countryfare. Situated in a relaxing rural environment just a few minutes before Brodie Castle, you’ll find one of the most pleasant shopping experiences in the North of Scotland, providing a blend of quality and a traditional Scottish welcome.

Around half-a-mile further along the A96 you’ll see signs on the left for Brodie Castle. Cross the single-track railway bridge and follow the road to the Castle entrance. You can explore the Castle and there are some lovely walks around the grounds. There is a shop and cafe.

If you wish to visit a distillery then call in to Benromach in Forres. You’ll find it on your left as you drive along the Forres bypass. Look out for the large White’s Removals building just across the Railway crossing.

Further along the A96 you’ll come to Elgin with its ancient cathedral dating back to the 13th Century – now in ruins. Alongside the Cathedral is the Biblical garden which is well worth a visit. Also in Elgin you’ll find the famous Johnston’s of Elgin knitwear factory outlet. They also offer mill tours that give a unique insight into how luxury cashmere is dyed, teased, carded, spun and hand-finished by the latest generation of the local craftsmen and women.

If you have time, drive on to Fochabers to the home of Baxters Highland Village – the famous soup people. Find out more about this family business and meander around the various exhibitions. Lovely restaurant on site.
